I know that coffee is a no-go for the carnivore and animal-based diets. I haven’t eliminated coffee from my diet, but I did cut down on it for several weeks. I used to drink it daily, more out of routine than necessity. My husband is a coffee drinker and it was just nice starting our day out together having a cup and spending quality time together before going our separate ways to work. Any time that he would travel, I wouldn’t bother making coffee, nor would I seek any caffeine alternatives.
I didn’t drink coffee before I met him because I didn’t like it– I just liked the taste of Coffee Mate’s French Vanilla creamer in the coffee 🙈 He was following The Primal Blueprint when I met him 12 years ago, so when I started drinking coffee with him, it was just with heavy cream. The taste grew on me and now I am accustomed to plain coffee with cream, no sweetener whatsoever.
I’ve made a lot of little changes in the past several months and cutting down on coffee and Celsius has been one of them (I know that sucralose in Celsius is bad buuuuut that boost of energy before a workout is fantastic!). I was drinking two cups of coffee in the mornings and then the Celsius in the afternoon so I know that it was starting to become an unhealthy habit. After not consuming it for a while, I started drinking coffee again on Saturday mornings. We have this expensive ass espresso machine that we bought at the start of COVID when my husband was working from home and saw no need to go to Starbucks every day for his afternoon doppio. Now we can drink our organic coffee with either Organic Valley’s pasture-raised heavy whipping cream or steamed raw milk (which I guess is pasteurizing it, but at least it’s fresh? I really don’t know).
A few months after no coffee during the week, I have gone back to drinking it daily as part of like camaraderie. I am a teacher and at my school, there is an office space in between my classroom and the one next to me. We have a drip and a Keurig machine in there that sat dry for the first several months because everybody was either bringing coffee from home or stopping at a drive-thru before coming in. Now at least 2 or 3 of us are making coffee with the Keurig each morning, rotating who buys the coffee (Sprouts organic) and heavy cream. We have been getting Kalona’s low-temp pasteurized, non-homogenized whipping cream. We all love that it foams up with the coffee.
So that’s where I’m at now with coffee. Not a necessity, but a delicious pleasure! Come summertime when I’m not going into work Monday through Friday, I might just stop drinking it during the week again, but I’m not making any proclamations at this time.
